I think this is a very powerful piece with a strong message that mixes women's rights as well human rights and the french revolution. The central figure of the painting is a female figure personifying Liberty. She stands at the front and middle of the image, holding the French flag high above her head, symbolizing the idea of liberty and equality. The first thing that strikes me in this piece is the contrast of colors. Every character is darker with more shading opposed to the woman who stands out in the light with a colorful flag. The artist also uses diagonal lines to convey the feeling of action and urgency in the piece. We mainly see this effect in the flag and the woman.
